Community Works Youth Theatre ROOTS Class presents:
BLOOD IN THE BRAIN
Performances Times: April 18 & 19, at 2:00 PM, April 20 at 7:00 PM
Written by Naomi Iizuka, Sean San Jose and members of Campo Santo
Directed by Ashley Smiley
In this updating of Campo Santo’s gritty adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet we are dropped into the middle of a turf war going down in San Francisco’s Bayview area. Hamlet has just been released from prison, his father has been killed, his mother is now married to his uncle and both his interior and exterior worlds are about to come crashing down around him. This piece was chosen to spark conversations about gun violence, turf wars, mental health, incarceration and so much more that affects Black and Brown communities in San Francisco. Blood in the Brain was originally developed with CalShakes and Intersection for the Arts.
Join us for a talkback with the artists following the April 18 and April 19 performances.
