About the Project Artaud Theater

Located at 450 Florida Street in San Francisco (map it!), the Project Artaud Theater was founded in 1972 as the performance center for Project Artaud, a collective. Originally occupied by the American Can Company factory, this industrial space gives the Artaud Theater an atmosphere and dimension unique in the country.

How to get there

To figure out driving directions, please click here Re: parking, we suggest parking between 17th and 20th Streets, between Harrison and Bryant. That's where you'll usually find the most parking, and it is also the best-lit area near the theater.

Via public transport, you can take MUNI lines 22 and 37, which stop at 16th and Harrison streets, or MUNI line 27, which stops at Bryant and 17th. The BART also runs to 16th and Mission. From the BART stop, just go east on 16th Street four blocks to Alabama, and then south on Alabama two blocks to the theater.

"Diners feel as if they're walking into a speakeasy when they enter the dark, moody surroundings, accented with black walls, frosted windows and concrete floors. The lighting is low, candles flicker from the tables, and waiters, attired in whatever T-shirts and grungy jeans they prefer, are even more carelessly dressed than the mostly young patrons. If you love good food and relaxed, laid-back service, you'll relish the Slow Club experience."
