SONGWRITING COMPETITION

As part of the world premiere of My HOT Lobotomy, David Szlasa and the Z Space Studio are happy to announce a HOT Lobotomy Songwriting competition!

Prize: $250 for every song we use.
Entry Fee: $0 Zilch. Nothing. Zip
Why: Because we want to hear what you have to sing/song/write.

Dates: Competition opens Tuesday, March 4, 2008.
All entries must be with us by Friday, April 18, 2008

This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in an original multidisciplinary theater piece being produced by Z Space Studio, ‘the guiding light of progressive theater and music in the Bay Area.' (San Francisco Magazine)

We are looking for up to 8 original songs, which will be played live by performers in My HOT Lobotomy during the show. All songs need to be on the general theme of climate change, but within that theme you can go wherever you want. Maybe you have already written a song inspired by personal anxiety, public complacency or political disillusionment? We would love to hear it. Or take this opportunity to get that anxiety out, pick up your kazoo, bemoan those melting ice caps, rage against the dying of the light! Ideally we are looking for a mixture of satire and comedy, sincerity and conviction.

Closes: 5pm Friday, April 18, 2008

Guidelines:
All entries must be compatible for live performance by two people. Entries can use any instrumentation and vocal style you wish.

Trapped in the Heat.
Ode to The Icecaps.
When will it stop raining in my forest?
The Climes, They Are A Changing.

Please do not use proper nouns (i.e. names of people/places/events/ideas) of which you do not have the rights. So saying ‘George Bush, why don’t you care about Greenpeace?’ is not good, whereas ‘All you governments, take care of the oceans’, is fine.

Submission:
Members of the cast will play all winning entries live during the show, My HOT Lobotomy, and as such we require full lyric sheets. We may also require sheet music, but please do not send this in until requested. All submissions must be clearly labeled (please write your name/number/email/track names on CD/cassette).

Judging Criteria:
Songs will be judged in relation to the structure and content of the show, My HOT Lobotomy. Although we are not looking for any particular style or genre, we hope that to choose winning tracks that are satirical, comic, sincere and true – although not necessarily all at the same time! Quality of performance and recording are not important to us, just so long as your song is in a format that can reach our ears, we are happy. All genres and styles are welcomed.
