Z Space embraces collaboration with local and national artists in the service of creating new work. Depending on your artistic and financial needs, we provide different models and flexible rates in both Z Space and Z Below.
If you are looking for more than a rental, Z Space can offer artistic and technical support, marketing, fundraising, and a breadth of other resources to create a successful Co-Production. This option is best suited for established organizations that have experience fundraising and producing.
In addition to supporting the development of new work in the Bay Area, Z Space is also committed to showcasing innovative works from companies around the nation and world. Z Space Presentations and Co-Presentations provide technical and marketing expertise to introduce Bay Area audiences to exciting works. In recent years, such luminaries as The Wooster Group (New York City, NY), The Rude Mechs (Austin, TX), Elevator Repair Service (New York City, NYC) and Theatre Mitu (NYC, Dubai) have graced our stage.
Through the Technical Development Residency Program, Z Space provides access to technical and design resources, allowing artists to develop their ideas in a fully equipped, professional theater. More details about the program can be found here. This program was created in 2011 and has been generously supported by the Andrew Mellon Foundation.
Formalized in 2018, the Free Space at Z Space Program does what it says: provides free space. We focus on groups that are new to Z Space, do not own a space, and would benefit from 1-2 weeks in Z Below. More details about the program can be found here.
