“Echoes in the Diaspora” is a multi-disciplinary program featuring GAPA Theatre and GAPA Men’s Chorus, as well as the talents of other community-based artists. As a queer and trans Asian and Pacific Islander (QTAPI) community in America, we are ultimately citizens of our times, not only reflecting our ethnic backgrounds but also influenced by a modern history as racial and sexual minorities. “Echoes in the Diaspora” signifies the resonance of memories, traditions, and identity that continue to influence and shape our lives as individuals within the QTAPI diaspora, mirroring through performance the spectrum of our historical arc as queer and trans APIs − from traditional expressions of music and dance, to contemporary reflections of a dispersed community intricately connected through ethnicity and sexuality. Taken together, the program speaks directly to the intersectionality of gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and culture, while showcasing the restorative power of QTAPI collaboration and performance.
