z space’s Steindler stage

The Steindler Stage is Z Space’s 236-seat flexible performance space, located at 450 Florida Street. The former home of the American Can Company, the building was converted to artist studios, residences, and performance space in 1972. Z Space took over this space from Theatre Artaud in 2009. The Steindler Stage was named in 2021 in honor of former Executive Artistic Director Lisa Steindler, for following her passion to pursue and perfect new work; her unwavering dedication to the artists who create, perform, and hone their crafts here; and her bold resolve to keep our doors open to audiences worldwide.

With its 40-foot tall ceilings and charmingly spartan decor, this theater is a set designer's dream—a blank canvas waiting to be transformed into any multitude of immersive, innovative dramatic worlds.

For all space use requests, please submit an inquiry via our online form. Please note we rarely book less than 2 weeks in advance of an event date.
