Z Space and Arlekin Players present:

Our Class

Written by Tadeusz Słobodzianek
Directed by Igor Golyak
Starring Chulpan Khamatova

March 27 - April 5
at Z Space’s Steindler Stage

Ten classmates — five Jewish and five Catholic Poles — who grow up as friends and neighbors, then find themselves pitted against each other in the face of entrenched antisemitism, with life and death consequences. Inspired by real life events surrounding a 1941 pogrom in a small Polish village, this shocking, timely story follows their lives from childhood through eight decades in a new contemporary production of Tadeusz Słobodzianek’s masterpiece, from Ukrainian-born Jewish director Igor Golyak.

As an organization led by a Jewish trans man, Z Space is compelled to share this urgent and timely story with Bay Area audiences now. Not only is it a warning of the potential consequences of the unchecked intolerance, polarization, and othering sweeping our nation, but it specifically serves as a clear and stark reminder of deeply entrenched antisemitism that persists today and is often misunderstood, missing, or purposely excluded from current public discourse.

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to Our Class to bring this powerful story to San Francisco audiences. As the warning goes, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
